Projects

Today, we present a range of initiatives that spark dialogue and center inclusion and belonging through art, education, and justice. Our ongoing work includes the Barnhill Movement Collective, Activated Artist Fest, and the Move for Change Dance Education Series, alongside workshops and interdisciplinary performances designed to empower artists and communities to activate change through creative practice.

The Barnhill Movement Collective is the professional dance company of Create A Space NOW, bringingtogether a diverse, multigenerational group of artists from across the Capital Region to create work rooted in movement, activism, and human connection. Drawing from contemporary, African, modern, hip-hop, and physical theater practices, the company develops repertory that reflects and reimagines society, using dance as a tool for dialogue, transformation, and collective healing. A gripping production, where art imitates life. It holds a mirror to the audience and challenges the viewer through dance, theatre, and text to reflect upon themselves and their presence within the everyday narratives that are presented to them via social media, television, newspapers, politics, family and first-hand encounters. Witness a compelling commentary covering topics such as WHITE FRAGILITY, DIVERSITY & INCLUSION, ANTI-BLACKNESS, ANTI-QUEERNESS & RACIAL FEAR. It forces viewers to step outside of their own bodies and into bodies that continue to be brutalized, objectified and minimized within America. The tension of everyday life and the experiences of Black and Brown people are brilliantly woven together in ways that have yet to be seen on stage. Viewers are left to decide if they will be active in the fight for this generation's civil rights or if they will simply sit on the sidelines. The Activated Artist Fest is an annual multidisciplinary arts festival produced by Create A Space NOW held in New York's Capital Region that centers artists whose work engages social justice, community storytelling, and creative activism. The festival provides a platform for performance, conversation, workshops, and community gathering, activating art as a catalyst for connection and change. Activated Artist Fest amplifies diverse voices and invites audiences to experience art that is bold, relevant, and deeply rooted in lived experience. This event is always free to the community.
