Why We Chose Not to Be a Nonprofit
We made a conscious decision not to become a nonprofit, and that choice is rooted in power, autonomy, and the urgent need to shift how the world values art and impact. For too long, artists and social change organizations have been told that to be taken seriously, to receive support, or to be “legit,” they must operate under a nonprofit structure. But that system often reinforces scarcity, dependence, and gatekeeping. We believe in a different model, one where art, justice, and community power are valuable on their own terms, not just when they’re subsidized.
As a for-profit entity with a fiscal sponsor, we retain the right to build wealth, pay artists well, and scale our impact, while still allowing our supporters to make tax-deductible donations. This hybrid approach lets us challenge the outdated narrative that being mission-driven means being broke or beholden to bureaucracy.
We’re here to rewrite the rules, to prove that creativity can be sustainable, social impact can be profitable, and that artists don’t need to beg for crumbs when we deserve full plates. We are building an arts ecosystem rooted in ownership, abundance, and liberation.

FAQ: How We Fund This Work & Why It Matters
Why didn’t you become a nonprofit?
We made a conscious decision not to become a nonprofit because we believe in reclaiming our power. Traditional nonprofit structures often come with limitations, scarcity mindsets, donor gatekeeping, and red tape that slows down real impact. We didn’t want to ask permission to liberate, create, or thrive. We wanted freedom to move how we need to move, pay people well, and build something that’s truly ours.
So…what does it mean that you’re a for-profit with a fiscal sponsor?
Great question. We are a for-profit social impact entity. That means we run our work like a business, with sustainability, ownership, and growth at the core. But we also partner with a fiscal sponsor, a nonprofit organization that believes in our mission and agrees to receive tax-deductible donations on our behalf. This lets our supporters donate through our sponsor and still receive the same tax benefits as if they gave directly to a nonprofit.
Does that mean my donation is tax-deductible?
Yes. Thanks to our fiscal sponsorship, your donation can be tax-deductible. It’s the best of both worlds: your money moves with integrity and intention, and you get the financial benefits of giving through a nonprofit structure.
Why is this model important?
Because artists deserve more than survival. Movements deserve more than scarcity. This hybrid model allows us to challenge old systems that say you can’t be mission-driven and financially secure. We’re saying yes to both. We’re flipping the script so art and activism can live at the intersection of passion and prosperity.
Quick Definitions

• For-Profit (Social Impact Entity): A business that earns revenue but centers community, culture, or justice as its primary purpose, not just profit.
• Nonprofit: A tax-exempt organization that must reinvest earnings back into its mission and typically relies on grants and donations.
• Fiscal Sponsorship: A partnership where a nonprofit agrees to receive and manage charitable donations on behalf of an unincorporated or for-profit project, allowing donors to receive tax deductions.
• Tax-Deductible: A donation that can reduce your taxable income, offering a financial benefit to you while supporting the work you care about.
Bottom Line:
We’re building a new lane, where art, community, and justice are resourced with abundance and dignity. Your support fuels that vision, and through our fiscal sponsor, your donations count in every way that matters.
